Extractions

While we offer many services to restore teeth, sometimes a tooth just can't be saved. Maybe you've got one or many teeth that you know will have to go – either because of pain, infection, or poor esthetics.

Before we do anything, we need to do an examination first – whether a limited or comprehensive one. Who knows? Maybe your tooth has options. If not, then we would make a treatment plan and make an appointment to remove, or extract, the tooth.

Will I Be Numb?

Assuming you are healthy enough for treatment, we would, of course, administer anesthetic to get you numb. It's hard enough to get a tooth taken out; we want you to be as comfortable as possible!

Can You Knock Me Out?

Unfortunately, none of our doctors do that kind of sedation. What we do offer is laughing gas (nitrous oxide), which will help you relax, but won't "knock you out." If you’re anxious enough that you need to be sedated, we can refer you to an office that can do that for you.

Do You Take Out Wisdom Teeth?

We usually refer patients who need wisdom teeth extraction to an oral surgeon. If the teeth are accessible and you’re not looking for sedation, we can sometimes take care of those for you in our office.

Will I Get Pain Medication?

We take prescription pain medication very seriously and only write for one when absolutely necessary. If the extraction is fairly routine, over-the-counter medicines are usually sufficient. The only pain medication we have on the premises is over-the-counter medication like Tylenol and Advil. If there is swelling or drainage, we will prescribe antibiotics.

Can You Put Some Replacement Teeth in Right Away?

Depending on your situation, there are a number of ways to replace missing teeth. But most, if not all, would require some planning ahead. If your extractions are urgent, due to pain or infection, we would probably need to take out the teeth first. If not, we could see if some replacement teeth could be prepared ahead of time so that the day the teeth come out, the appliance goes in.
